Meet Suellyn
I have a critical eye. Design is at the heart of my creative being. My creative endeavours over the past 20+ years have been heavily structured with a clear intent, outcome and visualisation at conception. My latest creative pursuits in the visual arts space has totally turned my design brain upside down and inside out… and it has been fantastic!
I am currently exploring and discovering an unfamiliar world, beginning a work with no constraints on where it needs to go, simply feeling my way and creating for the joy of it. What an unexpected pleasure this process has been! In the age where self-love and nurturing is a new rite of passage, thankfully it seems, I am finding the healing balm.
My inspiration comes from so many places. It can be the simple magic of colour or texture or an item I stumble upon, stashed away in one of the many boxes in my studio. On other days it is the kangaroos jumping across the front paddock or my young daughter finding delight and laughter in a flower, bug or rock from the garden or immersing myself in all of the amazing artists that I love, admiring the tapestry of their works.
I often try to convey a feeling of movement and depth into my work, both conceptually and physically – through texture, layering and the use of mixed media. My hope is that you find yourself immersed or captured by my work regardless of whether the piece is abstract or more representational.
My art practice is evolving, and I am excited to discover what is ahead, although I believe that my work will never be truly confined to one style or genre.
